Camping and More Camping...

Every so often it is nice to be able to unplug from the vast buzzing sea that is the internet and modern society.

As of writing this now, I have just spent a week camping as a Boyscout leader in the woods with pretty much no electronics “with the exception of my phone”. This coming week I will be journeying up to Canada for a week, where I will be living out of a canoe up in the remote Canadian wilderness.

Whilst I am unplugged, I still find myself thinking about how I can better improve my many different projects, that I work upon in my spare time. That being said, even when unwinding away from civilization. I still find many ways of keeping myself busy and productive without technoledgey.

During my many younger years as a Boyscout I learned many outdoor skills; fire building, pioneering, whittling, and sailing, among other things.

As a result, whenever I journey back to the outdoors, I am always itching to rekindle and improve upon the skills I had learned and practiced as a youth. Case and point at summer camp. On the third day I had lashed together a fort for the kids, and myself, and deemed it Fort Necessity.

Fort Necessity

At fifteen feet tall it was quite a nice project, taking me only half a days worth of work. It made for a lovely site for sleeping in my camping hammock for the rest of the week.

Either way, there is something deeply satisfying and refreshing about the independence of camping and directly seeing and using the fruits of your labours for providing for yourself and others.

I find that taking my mind off of everyday problems, and focusing on more basic and primal problems and skills can sometimes yield insightful and new solutions to current modern problems.

With that in mind, I will excitedly prepare for my week long canoeing trip to Canada and see what insights to life, computers, and humanity I can learn from my adventures.
